Disposable Hood Grease Filters Results
Our disposable hood grease filters capture up to a near-perfect 98% of airborne grease before it reaches the kitchen exhaust system. We’d like to share some photos to show you just how effective Shepherd Filters can be are reducing your routine cleaning costs and minimising your fire risk.
The Shepherd Filters team performed several site inspections in regional Australia during November 2020 for a customer that operates several branded cafes within its portfolio. After six months with Shepherd Filters protecting their hoods, we let the results speak for themselves (see picture above).
This location was operating for approximately two weeks without Shepherd Filters initially, but as you can see, our disposable hood grease filters have ensured that grease build-up is all but non-existent and only slight staining is present within the ducts. As long as the capable team sticks to the change guide provided on install, any progress shots that we perform on their behalf in six, 12+ months time should show next to no difference to the image on the right-hand side.
Below are two other sites that have each been using the Shepherd Filters solution for six and 12 months:
Wool is oleophilic – meaning that it has an affinity for oils, making it a great choice for grease containment. From a food safety and hygiene perspective, wool is also naturally resistant to bacteria, mould, and mildew. The benefits don’t stop there however, as wool is flame resistant due to its naturally high nitrogen and water content. Our disposable hood grease filters are also environmentally-friendly, as wool products are bio-degradable. Research shows that wool functions as an effective soil conditioner and fertiliser, slowly releasing sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium as it biodegrades.
What else does this mean to our customers?
Shepherd Filters stop you from having to guess when your system is dirty. A clean system protected by the Shepherd Filters solution means you can minimise both the extent and frequency of routine filter, hood, canopy, and duct cleaning. This will see you saving for years, just like this customer:
So when do you know that it’s time to clean your hood?
A flawed system involves guessing whether a system really does require cleaning and when it doesn’t. What is too much and what is not enough? AIRAH’s technical bulletin provides the answer with its “Kitchen exhaust systems – best practice inspection and cleaning” section that notes:
The use of a depth gauge/grease comb is the easiest way to identify if there is an unsafe build-up of grease on internal duct surfaces.
Readings of up to 0.05mm depth are regarded as a clean surface, readings of up to 2mm depth are acceptable. However, once over 2mm surfaces should be scheduled for cleaning, and any readings over 3mm indicate that immediate cleaning is required.
Both of our customers pictured in this article have passed the grade in flying colours, meaning they can postpone their routine duct clean and save.
