Shepherd Filters Supporting Farmers

We can safely say that 2020 hasn’t been short of a news story, with a global pandemic, elections, and sports taking up the majority of headlines. Yet the hard work and dedication that our Aussie farmers show, day in and day out should never be forgotten. After years of drought, the rains have delivered a bumper crop for many farmers this year, but COVID-19 means the drought is now in manpower, as legions of backpackers and other foreign workers have all but dried up. The struggles continue, and supporting this important industry is more critical now than ever.

Alongside our alignment with supporting the NDIS community, a percentage of our sales were donated to Rural Aid in January 2019, in a campaign that received a tremendous amount of support from our customers. Rural Aid is an Australian charity which has the primary purpose to provide assistance to relieve the poverty, illness, distress,or significant and unusual disadvantage of individuals and families conducting, directly or indirectly, primary production businesses and who are or have been adversely affected by acts of God (including, without limitation, droughts, floods and other natural disasters).

It’s a fact that without our farmers there would be no food on our plates, no clothes on our back, and no filters to protect kitchen exhaust hood systems from fires for that matter! Shepherd Filters relies heavily on Australian wool farmers to produce our disposable kitchen grease filters. Wool has a natural affinity for oils, making it a great choice for grease containment. The proof is in the pudding (pardon the pun) with Shepherd Filters’ ability to capture up to 98% of grease particulates before they have the chance to accumulate inside the kitchen exhaust system (where they become a fire hazard). From a food-safety and hygiene perspective, wool is also naturally resistant to bacteria, mould, and mildew. It also has an innate ability to absorb and neutralise many harmful pollutants from the air, benefitting those who use the space (in this case, the kitchen – where the magic happens).

Rural Aid’s Counsellors are working tirelessly to support as many farmers, and families as possible through this, particularly turbulent period. The decision to continue our support of this amazing organisation for 2020 was an easy one, something Shepherd Filters will commit to for the long-term.

Financial assistance goes a long way to helping the farming community so if you wish to make a donation as well, then click HERE. If making a donation is a little hard to do right now, then cheering a farmer on through Rural Aid’s digital #DearFarmer note is just as good! Rural Aid are asking Australians of all ages to spread some love and kindness, and share a digital note of hope with our farmers who are doing it tough.
